Doo Hoi Kem justified her seeded place to reach the Junior Girls' Singles semi-finals

Second seed Ariel Hsing of the United States and third seed, Hong Kong’s Doo Hoi Kem, duly reached the semi-final stage of the Junior Girls’ Singles event at the Egypt Junior and Cadet Open in Ismailia, following success in the early rounds of proceedings on Saturday 22nd June 2013,
At the quarter-final stage Ariel Hsing beat Chinese Taipei’s Chiu Ssu-Hua, the no.6 seed (2-10, 11-9, 11-7, 12-10) and Doo Hoi Kem accounted for Japan’s Mayuka Taira (7-11, 11-6, 12-10, 9-11, 7-11, 11-3, 11-7).
However, for the other leading names it was defeat.
First Round Exit
Lily Zhang, the no.1 seed, was beaten in the opening round by Yurika Taira (11-3, 11-7, 11-8, 11-6), who duly booked her place in the semi-finals by overcoming Hong Kong’s Soo Wai Yam (9-11, 11-8, 11-3, 11-6, 11-8).
Similarly there was an opening round defeat for Lam Yee Lok, the no.5 seed, also from Hong Kong. She had finished in second place in her group and thus had not progressed to her allotted place in the draw.
She was beaten by Ariel Hsing (10-12, 11-9, 11-8, 11-1, 11-8).
A first round defeat for Lam Yee Lok, it was the same scenario for Thailand’s Tamolwan Khetkhuan, the no.8 seed; she suffered defeat at the hands of Chiu Ssu-Hua.
At the semi-final stage, Doo Hoi Kem meets Japan’s Seira Ushijima, an outsider at the start of the tournament but a player who has yet to suffer defeat.
She continued her winning ways, beating Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chia-Hsuan, the no.10 seed, in the quarter-finals (11-6, 11-6, 15-17, 11-7, 14-12).
Meanwhile, in the lower half of the draw, Ariel Hsing confronts Yurika Taira.
Top Four Reach Semi-Finals
Upsets in the Junior Girls’ Singles event but not in the counterpart Cadet Girls’ Singles competition where the top four seeds all booked semi-final places.
In the round of the last eight; in the top half of the draw, Chinese Taipei’s Hung Hung, the no.1 seed, beat Egypt’s Malek Khory (11-5, 11-6, 11-7), whilst Nigeria’s Esther Oribamise, the no.4 seed, defeated Egypt’s Yomna Sorour.
Success for the favourites in the upper half of the draw, it was the same in the opposite half.
Chinese Taipei’s Lee Yu-Peng, the no.2 seed, accounted for Egypt’s Farida Elhabrouk (11-8, 11-5, 11-5) and Egypt’s Amira Yousry, the no.3 seed, ended the hopes of Singapore’s Tay Hui Li (8-11, 11-9, 12-10,11-6).
Junior Girls’ Doubles
The penultimate round reached in the Junior Girls’ Singles and Cadet Girls’ Singles events, the same stage has been reached in the Junior Girls’ Doubles and Cadet Girls’ Doubles events.
In the Junior Girls’ Doubles, Egypt’s Aliaa Doaa and Yousry Helmy, who sensationally beat the top seeded American partnership of Ariel Hsing and Lily Zhang in the quarter-finals (11-9, 2-11, 11-6, 11-3) meet Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chia-Hsuan and Lin Chia-Yu. In the opposite half, Hong Kong’s Doo Hoi Kem and Lam Yee Lok face Chiu Ssu-Hua and Huang Yu-Wen, also from Chinese Taipei.
Cadet Girls’ Doubles
A fine effort from Egypt and the African country is well represented in the Cadet Girls’ Doubles semi-finals.
Malak Khory and Amira Yousry meet Hong Kong’s Mak Tze Wing and Soo Wai Yam; in the opposite half Nigeria’s Agnes Onoja and Esther Oribamise face Chinese Taipei’s Hung Hung and Lee Yu-Peng.
The finals will be played on Sunday 23rd June 2013.
