A successful course staged in Atlanta, Georgia from Sunday 11th to Friday 16th August 2013; one month later, the Course Conductor, Richard McAfee, headed north.

The destination was the borough of Dunellen in Middlesex County, New Jersey; the task was to conduct another ITTF Level Two Course.

Home for the course, which was staged from Monday 2nd to Saturday 7th September 2013, was the Lily Yip Training Center, the recent home for an ITTF World Hopes Team Training Camp.

First in Region
It was the first ever such course in the northeast region and attracted a total of ten coaches from Maryland, New Jersey, New Mexico, and New York.

“In many ways, Dunellen, New Jersey is the perfect example of small town life in America”, explained Richard McAfee. “However when driving through the picturesque downtown area one quickly sees the largest building in the town and surprise, it is a state-of-the-art, table tennis club.”

Furthermore, it a table tennis club with a fast growing reputation of excellence.

The Dream
“The Lily Yip Training Center is the dream of United States Olympian, Lily Yip and her husband, Barry Dattel and is an ITTF “Hot Spot” Training Centre”, continued Richard McAfee. “Their training centre has recently been selected for a number of USATT and ITTF Training Programmes.”

High Level Group
Equally, a group of coaches with a high level reputation was present.

“ITTF Level One Course Conductors, Larry Hodges and Sydney Christophe took part”, continued Richard McAfee. “Also, United States Junior Team Coach and Olympian, Lily Yip along with local top coaches, Barry Dattel and Roger Yuan took time off their busy camp schedules to attend.”

Further Names to Note
They were not the only names to note.

“Also taking part was Mieczyslaw Suchy, a high level player and coach from Poland who now coaches at Spin New York”, said Richard McAfee. “Rounding out the participants were former USATT Coaching Chairman, Jef Smart along with Doon Woon, Simplice Sourou, and Nelson Gore.”

Perfect Score
A high quality attendance, the result was also of a high quality.
“All passed the Level Two exams”, enthused Richard McAfee. “Special congratulations to Larry Hodges who scored a rare perfect score of 20.”

A most commendable result and Richard McAfee now looks to the future.

Next Stop Austin Texas
“The ITTF Coaching Education Programme continues to grow and more and more ITTF Courses are being planned for the future”, concluded the Course Conductor for whom there is no rest.

Richard McAfee flew immediately from Austin in Texas to conducted a further ITTF Level Two Coaches Course; proceedings start on Monday 9th September and conclude on Saturday 14th September 2013.
