08/21/2012 2012 Olympic Games ,28 Jul 2012 - 08 Aug 2012, London, ENG

The victory recorded by Japan over Singapore at the semi-final stage of the Womenís Team event at the London Olympic Games on the evening of Sunday 5th August, in the packed to capacity ExCeL North Arena, was one of the most emotional moments of the twelve days of action.

In fact it was the most emotional moment. Tears of joy streamed down the faces of Sayaka Hirano and Kasumi Ishikawa after they had secured doubles success against Li Jiawei and Wang Yuegu.

It was a win which meant Japan had secured their first ever medal in the table tennis events an Olympic Games.

Furthermore at ther least, it was silver. ....

A Greater Success than Realised, the Korean Menís Team Silver Medal

08/21/2012 2012 Olympic Games ,28 Jul 2012 - 08 Aug 2012, London, ENG

It was not to be a gold medal but for the Korean Menís Team the goal at the London 2012 Olympic Games was very much achieved.

The three matches to nil victory over Singapore at the semi-final stage, in effect, secured the silver medal.

Anything less would have been a disappointment; anything more would have been a massive bonus.

Furthermore, it was one step higher than had been achieved in Beijing four years earlier when the bronze medal had been secured. Realistically for the trio of Joo Saehyuk, Oh Sangeun and Ryu Seunmin, it was mission accomplished in London.....

Liu Guoliang Leads Legionaries to Londinium Conquest after Short War

08/08/2012 2012 Olympic Games ,28 Jul 2012 - 08 Aug 2012, London, ENG

Veni vidi vici; just like Julius Caesar in 47 BC after the short war against Pharnaces II of Pontus, the Chinese came, they saw and they conquered in the ExCeL Arena at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

They captured every available medal on offer and none was the colour bronze. In the Menís and Womenís Singles events they won both gold and silver, a step aheasd of the field. In the Menís and Womenís Team competitions it was gold on each occasion; again a step ahead

On Wednesday 8th August, they concluded matters in the grand manner. They beat Korea in the final of the Menís Team event by three matches to nil; just as it had been for Julius Caesar two thousand years earlier, it was a short war. Furthermore, they took no prisoners.....

Third Career Medal for Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Menís Team Bronze for Germany

08/08/2012 2012 Olympic Games ,28 Jul 2012 - 08 Aug 2012, London, ENG

The fourth seeds, Germany secured the bronze medal in the Menís Team event at the London 2012 Olympic Games on the morning of Wednesday 8th August.

They overcame Hong Kong China by three matches to one.

It was one place lower than had been gained four years earlier in the Peking University Gymnasium at the Beijing Olympic Games but it was very much mission achieved.

Occupying the fourth seeded spot in the draw, it meant that they had a 50 per cent chance of being in the same half of the draw as top seeds, China or conversely, second seeds, Korea.....

Two gold medals already secured, China captured a third on the afternoon of Tuesday 7th August by securing the Womenís Team title at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The white hot favourites to reserve the top step of the medal podium the trio of Ding Ning, Li Xiaoxia and Guo Yue duly delivered.

They were under pressure, they were expected to succeed and they did not disappoint their hundreds of supporters massed in the tiered seating of the ExCeL Arena.

It was the silver medal for Japan but it was a silver medal win honour, the first ever for Japan in the table tennis events at an Olympic Games.....

The Torch is a major symbol of the Olympic Games; the lighting of the flame is awaited with baited breath.

Meanwhile, for those who recently had the honour to carry the Torch on its journey through the United Kingdom to its eventual destination in London, it was an occasion to be remembered for ever. An Olympic Torch is a prized possession and now one such precious item is in the possession of the International Table Tennis Federation.

At a special ceremony held prior to the Womenís Team Final in the ExCeL Arena on Tuesday 7th August 2012, an Olympic Torch was presented by Debbie Jevans, the Sport Director for the London Olympic Games Organising Committee, to Adham Sharara, the ITTF President.....

08/07/2012 2012 Olympic Games ,28 Jul 2012 - 08 Aug 2012, London, ENG

Silver medallists in Beijing, four years later in London it was bronze.

At the London 2012 Olympic Games, Singapore overcame Korea by three matches to nil on the morning of Tuesday 7th August to secure the third step of the podium.

A three matches to nil victory but it was a hard fought three matches to nil success; every contest was determined in four games.

Feng Tianwei beat Kim Kyungah (11-9, 11-8, 4-11, 13-11) to give Singapore the ideal start. Li Jiawei extended the lead by defeating Seok Hajung (11-5, 11-8, 6-11, 11-8) before returning to the table to secure a doubles victory in partnership with Wang Yuegu.....
