Junior Boys: India-C crush Chinese Taipei in Group B
The Indian duo of Jeet Chandra and Manush Shah defeated the higher ranked team of Chinese Taipei comprising of top seed Lai Chi-Chien and Tai Ming Wei in the group stage on Day 1 at Indore. The Indians kicked off the game with a dominant 2-0 lead. Jeet Chandra crushed hopes of Lai Chi Chien winning the opening game 3-1 (11-8, 13-11, 3-11, 19-17). Next came Manush Shah who encountered Tai Ming Wei in a similar fashion of 3-1 (13-11, 11-8, 7-11, 12-10) giving India-C a 2-0 lead. In the third game, which is a doubles contest, the pair of Chinese Taipei bounced back winning by a comfortable 3-0 margin. But the hero was Jeet Chandra who kept his nerve tight in the 4th game and defeated Tai Ming Wei 3-1 (11-6, 11-3, 8-11, 11-5) to finally wrap up the match 3-1.
India-C also beat India-F 3-0 thus securing first position in Group B. Chinese Taipei defeated India-F 3-0, finishing at number two in the group. Thus from Group B, India- C and Chinese Taipei advance to the quarter final stage to be played on 8th September.
From Group A, India B and India E and from Group C, India A and India D advance to the quarter finals.
Clearly, Indians ended the first day on a confident note, however, the challenge lies ahead for Chinese Taipei as they will have to pull up their socks to prevent the Junior Boys team event to be an all Indian affair.
Cadet Boys Team event: Chinese Taipei enters Semi Finals
There was some relief for Chinese Taipei in Cadet Boys Team event. In group A, they beat India-C and India-E with a comfortable 3-0 and 3-1 margin respectively, thus entering the semi finals stage. India-E beat India-C to qualify at second spot for the semi finals.
In Group B, which was again an all India affair, India-A and India-D progressed to the semi final stage.
Semi finals of the Cadet Boys’ Team event will be played on 8th September at 11.30am IST.
