Maki Shiomi unbeatable
World number eight in Under-18 and top seed in Junior girls’ singles, Maki Shiomi had an unbelievable run in the last two days at the Serbian Junior and Cadet Open. She was crowned the champion in Women’s singles as she defeated host nation’s Lupulesku Izabela in straight sets 11-6, 11-5, 11-5, 11-6.
In the semi-finals, Maki beat Doval Ilka (NOR) in a comfortable 4-0 victory 11-5, 11-6, 12-10, 11-9. On the other hand Lupulesku Izabela had a challenge from fellow teammate Jokic Tijana as the match stretched upto six games 11-9, 3-11, 11-8, 6-11,8-11, 9-11.
What’s more impressive is that the Japanese teenager won all her matches starting from group stage until the finals in straight sets. With a clean sweep of all matches here in Serbia, Maki has proved that she in indeed the most impressive player of the tournament.
Serbia crowed champion in Junior Girls’ doubles
The junior girls’ doubles was dominated by Serbia the pair of Lupulesku Izabela and Surjan Sabina dropped only one game on their way to winning the title. They defeated the pair of Clapa Andreea and Plaeasu Mihaela from Romania in straight games .The Serbian pair seemed infallible in the 1st and the 3rd game as they conceded only one point each. Only the 2nd game was contested hard as it went on to 13-11. The Serbians won 11-1,13-11,11-1.
Junior Girls’ Teams Groups decided
The team championship for Junior girls will commence on day three of the tournament.
Three teams in group A: Serbia A, Mix team of Belarus, Norway, Portugal and Mix team of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Switzerland will compete starting 10:30am.
In group B: Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia-B and mix team of Serbia and Italy will play the round robin qualification stage starting at 10:30am.
