Bayi and Shandong Weiqiao have both been very intimidating in this season’s league proceedings. In this round, nothing changed. They continued to show a high level of performance placing their opponents with not much chances to win.
The Bayi Team, led by the 19-year old sensation Fan Zhendong, recorded a comprehensive win the fifth round. Despite being guests, Fan Zhendong, Zhou Yu and Xu Chenhao all worked together to finish the battle in just three matches. However, it’s worth noting that Fan Zhendong didn’t had an easy victory.
He had to go through five games just to overcome Ren Hao. Fan Zhendong survived in a full distance contest (5-11, 11-3, 7-11, 11-9, 7-3).
Meanwhile, Shandong Weiqiao gave one of their players a chance to play in the fifth round. He is Xue Fei and he was up against Lai Jiaxin of Sichuan in the opening match. Xue Fei was successful in (3-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-5, 10-8). Ma Long imposed his control over Zhu Linfeng in the second match. The Doubles tandem of Lin Gaoyuan and Yan An sealed the sweeping victory for Shandong Weiqiao.
Both Shandong Weiqiao and Bayi are tied with five wins and zero loss in the competition.
Shandong Luneng comes in next. The team went through a difficult battle in the previous round after being beaten by Bayi. In the fifth round, they recovered as guests against Jiangsu. Fang Bo opened the battle with a victory against Sun Wen. Hao Shuai failed to deliver a positive result in the second match. He was defeated by Zheng Peifeng.
Hao Shuai, after such defeat, redeemed himself and won the doubles with Zhang Chao. Fang Bo returned into the arena for the fourth match. He sealed the victory for Shandong Luneng in a close encounter against Zheng Peifeng (11-7, 6-11, 11-13, 11-9, 8-6).
While the three leading teams posted a successful result in the fifth round, Shanghai on the other hand experienced some troubles.
Shanghai played as guests against Bazhou but they actually had a strong start in the battle. Xu Xin posted a domineering 3-0 win against Fan Shengpeng (11-8, 11-5, 11-8). However, the hosting team had a strong player in the round. He is Liang Jingkun. He accounted for the defeat of Shang Kun in the second match and Xu Xin in the fourth.
Liang Jingkun overcame the 2016 Olympic Team champion in 17-15, 11-9, 6-11, 10-12, 7-1.
The battle eventually led to a deciding match. Bazhou’s Wang Chuqin had all the support to post a clean sweep against Shanghai’s foreign aide Jeoung Youngsik. Shanghai lost the round.
Completing the list of victors in the round is the Anhui Team who upset the supporting crowd of Tianjin. Anhui posted a three-two victory.
