The day will start with the remaining matches in round of 16 to be played in the afternoon. In the women’s side, Japanese sensation, world number nine, Mima Ito will be seen in action up against Germany’s Han Ying in the opening match on day two. At the same time, Hina Hayata (JPN) will be up against Cheng-I-Ching (TPE) in their round of 16 encounter, their winner will face world number four, Zhu Yuling .
The round of 16 match between Miu Hirano and Feng Tianwei will be a repeat of the semi finals of the Women’s World Cup last month where Miu Hirano defeated the world number six in a six game thriller. Later Yang Haeun (KOR) and Shan Xiaona (GER) will battle it out grab a spot in the quarter finals, the winner of their match will play world number five Kasumi Ishikawa.
The men’s side has some exciting round of 16 matches, Chuang Chih-Yuan (TPE) will take on Yuya Oshima (JPN), the winner of them will play Jeoung Youngsik (KOR) who beat Jun Mizutani in the round of 16 on day one.
World number three Xu Xin will start his campaign with a clash against Chen Chien-An (TPE) to grab a spot in the quarter finals against Yotu Muramatsu (JPN), seeded ninth in the tournament.
Dimitrij Ovtcharov will be seen in action against Tang Peng (HKG), ranked 19th in the December world rankings. Ovtcharov, currently ranked sixth in the world, has had a tough season post the Olympic Games which did not lead to the desired results, thus he will be giving his more than 100% to make his mark again. The winner of their match will play against the winner between Koki Niwa (JPN) and Fan Zhendong (CHN) who just won the Table Tennis Star Point of the year at the ITTF Star Awards last evening.
The quarter finals of the Under-21 men’s singles, men’s doubles and women’s doubles will also be played today starting at 1:00pm local time.
