A busy week is in store for Oceania athletes, and ITTF President Thomas Weikert was present to help get the trio of tournaments underway in Suva, Fiji.
“Three events under one roof! It’s fantastic having the ITTF-Oceania Cup, Junior Championships and Para Championships side by side. This is inclusion at its best.” Thomas Weikert, ITTF President
This is the only continental championships in the world to hold such an event. With para, junior and senior athletes to compete side by side, an inspiring stage has been set in Suva.
Local support has been key in getting the tournament off the ground and creating an engaged public.
“There has been good television and newspaper coverage, particularly from The Fiji Times, even before the tournament had started. Anthony Ho, Fiji Table Tennis Association President, has done a fantastic job so far in building the profile of the event.” Thomas Weikert, ITTF President
This week will only set the benchmark for events come; the whole world will be watching as the 2017 ITTF World Cadet Challenge comes to Suva later this year.
“From great hospitality to a nice venue, Fiji knows how to put on a fantastic event. I am certainly looking forward to the World Cadet Challenge here in Fiji in October.” Thomas Weikert, ITTF President
