The Chinese fans were more than delighted to see their very own stars move so swiftly in the finals stage as they showed complete dominance.
In the first semi finals, the no.1 seeds Fan Zhendong and Lin Gaoyuan beat the no.4 seeded pair of Japan’s Koki Niwa and Maharu Yoshimura in a straight games victory.
After winning the first game 11-5, the Chinese fell in a bit trouble as the Japanese pair led 7-3 in the second game. But it was a combination of Fan Zhendong’s consistency and Lin Gaoyuan’s speed that had the Japanese pair fight for their lives. China eventually fought back and won the second game 11-9. The third game was a quick affair as they wrapped it up 11-3, thus moving into the finals.
Fan Zhendong and Lin Gaoyuan won 11-5, 11-9, 11-3.
On the other side, the no.2 seeds from China Fang Bo and Zhou Yu beat the no.3 seeded pair of Hong Kong Ho Kwan Kit and Wong Chun Ting, in a smooth 3-0 match.
Fan and Zhou started off the match with a huge lead of 9-1, proving their dominance and winning the first game 11-3. They continued their powerful attacks against the pair from Hong Kong to win the second game at 11-8. The third game was a bit neck to neck, and at 3-6, Ho and Wong tried to get back in the game after a time out. But they efforts went in vain as the Chinese pair was way too prepared. They wrapped up the game 11-5 and cruised into the finals.
Fang Bo and Zhou Yu won 11-3, 11-8, 11-5.
Interesting to note that all four pairs in the men’s doubles were a combination of a left and a right handed player. Certainly it works well as both the players have an open arm to attack.
The finals will be played at 18:00 local time. Watch LIVE on ITTF’s Youtube Channel.
