In a group comprising all Brazilian players, after overcoming Thiago Pradella earlier in the day (11-7, 11-8, 6-11, 11-2), he accounted for Rafael Rosenberg in an even more impressive manner. He emerged successful in three straight games (11-9, 13-11, 11-5).
One match remains in the group for Guillerme Teodoro; he faces Gustavo Kodama, who after beating Rafael Rosenberg (11-4, 12-10, 10-12, 13-11) lost to Thiago Pradella (11-9, 11-9, 10-12, 11-3).
Unbeaten performances, likewise Edouardo Tomoike and Luiz Anjos completed the day without defeat as did Massao Kohatsu; likewise in groups formed by host nation players.
Edouardo Tomoike ended the day with victory over Gustavo Yokota (11-8, 11-8, 1-12, 11-4), Luis Anjos overcame Diogo Silva (11-6, 8-11, 11-6, 11-8), having one match prior defeated Leonardo Fogaca (11-4, 12-10, 11-6).
Earlier in the day, Massao Kohatsu had narrowly beaten Isaac Zauli (11-8, 4-11, 11-8, 7-11, 16-14).
Meanwhile, in the Under 21 Women’s Singles event where players finishing in first and second places in each group plus two “Lucky Losers” drawn at random from the third placed advance to form the quarter-finals; in an all Brazilian event Bruna Takahashi, Martina Kohatsu and Livia Lima finished the day unbeaten.
In the concluding series of matches for the day, Bruna Takahashi accounted for Daniela Yano (11-8, 11-2, 11-9), Martina Kohatsu recovered from a two games to nil deficit to narrowly beat Luana Katsumata (9-11, 3-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9), whilst Livia Lima overcame Beatrix Kimoto (11-8, 11-7, 11-5).
Play in the group stage of both the Under 21 Men’s Singles and Under 21 Women’s Singles events concludes on Thursday 4th May.
