Leonardo IIzuka joined forces with Guilherme Marchiori to win the Under 11 Boys’ Doubles event; the duo having previously been crowned Under 11 Boys’ Team champions.
Similarly Laura Watanabe clinched the top prize in the Under 13 Girls’ Doubles with Giulia Takahashi, her partner in the successful Under 13 Girls’ Team event campaign.
At the final hurdle Leonardo IIzuka and Guilherme Marchiori beat Chile’s Renato de la Jara and Alvaro Fuentes (11-6, 11-2, 11-4); Laura Watanabe and Giulia Takahashi overcame Peru’s Ana Aragon and Maria Maldonado (11-7, 5-11, 11-7, 11-7).
Two gold medals; the third was added later on the penultimate day of play with success for Leonardo IIzuka in the Under 11 Mixed Doubles competition and for Laura Watanabe in the counterpart Under 13 Mixed Doubles event.
Leonardo IIzuka joined forces with Beatrix Kanashiro, the pair accounting for Ecuador’s Esteban Alban and Angelica Arellano in the final (11-8, 11-6, 11-8); similarly, Gustavo Gertsmann and Laura Watanabe overcame Peru’s Adrian Rubinos and Marcia Maldonado to secure the top prize (9-11, 11-8, 11-3, 11-3).
A successful tournament to date for the Brazilians; it is very much the same for Peru’s Carlos Fernandez and Adrian Rubinos. Winners of the Under 13 Boys’ Team title, the Peruvians won the Under 13 Boys’ Team competition, the pair defeating Brazil’s Gustavo Gertmann and Henrique Noguti (9-11, 11-2, 12-10, 12-10) in the title deciding contest.
Success for Brazil, success for Peru, as the last but one day of play there was also success for Colombia.
Ana Isaza and Mariana Puiz won the Under 11 Girls’ Doubles title; at the final hurdle they overcame Brazil’s Beatrix Kanashiro and Karina Shiray (6-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-9).
Notable performances and one other factor to note in the doubles deciding contests; Brazilian names appeared in all six finals.
Play concludes on Sunday 21st May with the titles being decided in the Under 11 Boys’ Singles, Under 11 Girls’ Singles, Under 13 Boys’ Singles and Under 13 Girls’ Singles events.
