It is an open invitation. Therefore not all nominations may be accepted.
Furthermore only nominations submitted by bona fide national associations will be considered; a maximum of two applications per national association is requested.
Notably the tournament will be the first time the “Elite Match Officials” initiative has been adopted. A Platinum event, it is anticipated that the best players in the world will compete; thus the highest standards of officiating are required. It is a step towards professional umpiring.
Furthermore, a higher honorarium of a minimum $50.00 per day is offered; the eventual plan being to remit flight costs.
Full hospitality will be provided for all umpires in a twin room from dinner on Tuesday 18th September to breakfast on Saturday 23rd September; for four selected umpires this will be extended to breakfast on Monday 25th September.
Each umpire will receive a daily allowance per competition day, according to ITTF regulations.
All invited umpires must organize their own transport to the region as well as travel and medical insurance. In addition, all invited umpires are responsible for early arrival and late departure. Local transport will be provided from and to Linz Airport (IATA Code: LNZ)
Should a nominated umpire require a visa, kindly send relevant details when submitting the nomination (full name as in passport, date of birth, place of birth, passport number, expiry date of passport). A letter invitation will be provided.
All costs relating to visas are the responsibility of the applicant; the issue of a visa is at the sole discretion of the relevant consulate or embassy.
Umpires must wear the International umpiring uniforms as described in the Handbook for Match Officials.
The closing date for nominations is Thursday 20th July. The complete list of umpires accepted, including those selected to officiate on the concluding two days of the tournament will be advised on or before Tuesday 1st August.
An Advanced Rules Examination is offered at 3.00pm on Monday 18th September.
