Europe vs. Nigeria
The preliminary rounds of the Men’s Doubles will be underway on day two of qualifications in Lagos. Europe will be well represented with Italy and Russia both taking the court. They will be up against dynamic Nigerian duos who will looking to keep their home crowd happy. Be sure to catch these matches for what will likely be some of the most entertaining table tennis so far.
Continental rivals
Simeen Mookrey, from the Republic of South Africa will be looking to Nigerian clean sweep of qualification places in the Under 21 Women’s Singles. Nimota Aregbesola is blocking her path. The Nigeria Open is Mookrey’s senior debut on the world stage. An upset win here would be the perfect kickstart to her career.
Sipos is ready to sweat
The Under 21 Men’s Singles main draw will also be kicking off . Top seed Rares Sipos from Romania will get his first taste of competition. Sipos is the No.12 seed in the Men’s Singles so will be getting a head-start at the competition compared to his senior rivals. Fitness shouldn’t be an issue. At sixteen years old Sipos should be bursting with energy. But the Lagos weather may be an unruly opponent; the temperature looks set to get up to thirty degrees celsius.
