A three matches to one success was the margin of victory for Mexico in the Girls’ Team final when facing Puerto Rico.
Kassandra Maldonado gave Puerto Rico the ideal start by inflicting the first defeat in the whole tournament on Clio Barcenas (11-6, 11-9, 6-11, 11-9). However, that was to prove the sum total of the Caribbean island’s success. Fabiola Diaz was beaten by both Marbella Aceves (11-7, 11-8, 8-11, 11-6) and by Clio Barcenas (11-7, 11-9, 11-6). Sandwiched in between, in Monica Muñoz won the crucial third match of the fixture to give Mexico the advantage; she accounted for Zulnamy Soto (7-11, 11-5, 11-7, 12-10).
A three matches to one success for Mexico was a most creditable effort; the three-nil win recorded by Argentina in opposition to Peru in the Boys’ Team final was arguably event more imposing.
Christian Azcoaga resigned to the bench, Luciano Alto gave Argentina the ideal start by beating Adolfo Cucho (11-4, 11-8, 11-6), before Matias Guadalupe doubled the advantage. He defeated Carlos Fernandez in a similarly commanding manner (11-8, 11-6, 11-7).
Argentina in the ascendancy, Matias Velarde brought matters to a conclusion. He overcame José Zapata (11-7, 11-5, 9-11, 11-3).
Play in the Boys’ Team and Girls’ Team event over; attention now turns to the individual events – Boys’ Singles, Girls’ Singles, Boys’ Doubles, Girls’ Doubles, Mixed Doubles – play concludes on Sunday 13th August.
