At the final hurdle Marcos Tavarez accounted for Trinidad and Tobago’s Jalen Kerr (11-6, 11-13, 11-4, 8-11, 11-9), having at the semi-final stage beaten colleague Oswaldi Reyes (13-11, 11-5, 6-11, 11-7); in the counterpart semi-final, Jalen Kerr overcame Christopher Rodriguez, also from the Dominican Republic (12-14, 11-7, 11-7, 11-7).
Good form from Marcos Tavarez, it was the same from Ramon Vila. In an event where all four semi-finalists were from the Dominican Republic, he accounted for Yoel Mendoza (11-4, 11-8, 11-3), prior to securing the title by beating Eduardo Darley (7-11, 11-5, 4-11, 11-8, 12-10). One round earlier, Eduardo Darley had ended the hopes of José Cabral to reach the final (14-12, 11-5, 11-4).
Impressive performances, it was the same from Priyanka Khellawan and Liana Campbell. In the final of the Under 13 Girls’ Singles event, Priyanka Khellawan beat Jamaica’s Solesha Young (11-6, 11-5, 11-5); at the same stage of the Under 11 Girls’ Singles event, Liana Campbell defeated the Dominican Republic’s Shary Muñoz (11-3, 11-4, 11-9).
Earlier in the semi-finals, Solesha Young had beaten Trinidad and Tobago’s Imani Edwards-Taylor (11-1, 11-4, 11-6); Priyanka Khellawan had ousted the Dominican Republic’s Diliesy Acevedo (11-7, 11-4, 11-5). Meanwhile, at the same stage Liana Campbell had overcome Jamaica’s Olivia Petrekin (4-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-9, 11-2), Shary Muñoz had ended the hopes of colleague Arianna Estrella (11-6, 8-11, 11-7, 11-6).
Titles for the Dominican Republic, earlier in the proceedings two further titles had been added. Marcos Tavarez and Christopher Rodriguez won the Under 13 Boys’ Doubles event beating Trinidad and Tobago’s Nicholas O’Young and Nicolas Lee in the final; in the counterpart Under 11 Boys’ Doubles final it was success for Ramon Vila and Eduardo Darley. They overcame Guyana’s Krystian Sahadeo and Jonathan Van Lange in the final (11-6, 11-1 13-11).
Titles decided, matters concluded with special awards being made to the most outstanding player in age group.
Ramon Vila and Marco Tavarez received the awards in the respective Under 11 Boys and Under 13 Boys categories; for the girls it was Priyanka Khellawan and Marco Tavarez.
The Dominican Republic emerged as the most successful country (six gold, five silver, eight bronze) followed by Jamaica (five gold, four silver, eight bronze), Trinidad and Tobago (two gold, three silver, five bronze and Guyana (one silver, three bronze).
