Portuguese international, Diogo Carvalho, gave Sporting the perfect start by beating Victor Carvalho (11-7, 11-5, 11-3). Soon after Quadri Aruna doubled the advantage when overcoming John Carmelite ( 11-5, 11-6, 11-8).
Matters concluded with Bode Abiodun, a semi-finalist at the 2017 ITTF Challenge Series Seamaster Nigeria Open beating Hugo Pinto (11-4, 11-4, 11-4) to seal the victory.
Prior to the Portuguese Super Cup win, Quadri Aruna made his debut in the European Champions League; a three-one win being the result against AS Pontoise Cergy of France on Thursday 28th September.
Undoubtedly, the win was an upset. Quadri Aruna was beaten by Marcos Freitas (11-5, 11-9, 11-8) in the opening match of the contest but João Monteiro levelled matters by overcoming Can Akkuzu (11-2, 13-15, 11-6, 6-11, 11-8). The overall fixture score level, Diogo Carvalho gave Sporting the advantage by accounting for Niagol Stoyanov (4-11, 11-9, 12-10, 5-11, 11-5).
Proceedings concluded with João Monteiro winning the battle of Portuguese colleagues. He prevailed against Marcos Freitas in four games (11-5, 11-9, 9-11, 14-12).
The next European Champions League fixture for Sporting is on Thursday 12th October when they face Poland’s K.S. Dartom Bogoria Grodzisk Mazowiecki.
