Overall a total of 19 individuals from all walks of life, not just sport will be recognised at a special ceremony held on Saturday 25th November at the Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Nominations were the result of a detailed process undertaken by the Board and management of the publication under the direction of Mrs. Funke Egbemode; the award being part of the newspaper’s recognition of excellence and drive by personalities and institutions in making Nigeria stand out globally.
“As the watchdog of the society, we believe the media should go beyond beaming searchlight on only the ills in the society. We also owe it as a duty to recognise individuals and institutions that have not just weathered the storm and succeeded where others failed but also made visible contributions to the development of the country; this is exactly what we are doing as a newspaper organisation.” Funke Egbemode
Additionally, Quadri Aruna has been nominated in two categories for the 2017 Nigeria Sports Award scheduled for Friday 17th November in Lagos; one category is the Sportsman of the Year in which appears Victor Moses, who represents Chelsea in the Premier Division of the English Football League and Ike Diogu, the captian of the national basket team.
