At the colourful event held at the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos; politicians, captains of industry and sports were in attendance to witness the award ceremony for the 23 most outstanding Nigerians of the year

Four sporting personalities were recognised.

Freestyle wrestler, Odunayo Adekuoroye, Commonwealth Games gold medallist and silver medallist at the 2017 World Championship, was named as the Sportswoman of the Year.

According to the Managing Director of New Telegraph, Funke Egbemode, the recipients were selected based on their impact in Nigeria and the effect they have on the population in general.

Notably earlier this year, Quadri Aruna won the Men’s Singles title at the 2017 ITTF Challenge Polish Open which most recently he was a quarter-finalist at the Seamaster 2017 ITTF World Tour Swedish Open.
