Both competitions organised on a group all-play-all basis; neither Argentina nor Chile was seriously tested as the quest for honours commenced.
Selecting Horacio Cifuentes, Martin Bentancor and Pablo Tabachnik, a three-nil win was posted against Paraguay’s Mathias Ferreira, Axel Gavilan and David Leon, before with Gaston Alto replacing Pablo Tabachnik, the same result was recorded against the Uruguayan trio of Pablo Palou, Bruno Moleda and Santiago Kacowicz.
Likewise, Judith Morales, Daniela Ortega and Paulina Vega made their intentions clear. They opened their campaign with a three-one win against Uruguay’s Carolina Gonzalez, Maria Solano and Maria Pia Lorenzotti; the one win for the defeated being recorded by Maria Pia Lorenzotti. In the third match of the fixture, she accounted for Judith Morales (11-6, 9-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-7).
Success for Chile in their opening contest, it was the same in their second; a resounding three-nil win was recorded against Paraguay’s Lucero Ovelar, Leyla Gomez and Melina Hermosilla.
Two fixtures completed, two wins for the top seeds; it was the same for the second seeds.
However, in the Men’s Team event it was a close call for Chile. Represented throughout by Gustavo Gomez, Juan Lamadrid and Manuel Moya, a three-nil win was recorded in their opening fixture against Paraguay’s Mathias Ferreira, Axel Gavilan and David Leon. A relatively comfortable opening success; the next contest against Brazil’s Israel Barreto, Mario Costa and Emerson Maeda was much different; a full distance three-two win was the outcome. Thorn in the side of the Chileans was Israel Barreto; he accounted for both Manuel Moya (11-7, 11-13, 11-7, 10-12, 11-8) and Juan Lamadrid (11-7, 5-11, 11-8, 11-7).
Meanwhile, in the Women’s Team event, Argentina, the second seeds, who in the Women’s Team event selected from Camila Arguelles, Ana Codina, Agustina Iwasa and Candela Molero enjoyed a successful day.
Candela Molero resigned to the bench, a three-nil win was posted against Paraguay’s Leyla Gomez, Lucero Ovelar and Melina Hermosila, before the same margin of victory was recorded in opposition to Uruguay’s Carolina Gonzalez, Maria Solano and Maria Pia Lorenzotti.
Play in both the Men’s Team event which comprises Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay concludes on Monday 11th December, as does the Women’s Team competition formed by Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.
