A three-two victory was the order of proceedings against Chile in the contest that decided first and second places in the group.
Mainstay of the success was Guilherme Teodoro; in the second match of the fixture, he accounted for Andres Martinez (12-10, 11-7, 11-7), before in the fourth match overcoming Nicolas Burgos (9-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-7). The success against Nicolas Burgos levelled matters and set the scene for Rafael Torino to complete the task. He duly obliged; impressively, he beat Andres Martinez in three straight games (11-6, 11-6, 11-7).
Notably the win recorded by Guilherme Teodoro had an air of revenge; last year in the first knock-out event at the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games continental qualification tournament staged in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the Brazilian had lost to Nicolas Burgos in the final. Later Guilherme Teodoro was to win the second knock-out competition.
The wins for Chile were recorded in the opening match of the fixture by Nicolas Burgos in opposition to Rafael Torino (11-6, 11-4, 11-4) and by Jorge Paredes in the third match when by the very narrowest of margins, he accounted for Rafael Torino (11-7, 11-8, 8-11, 5-11, 11-9).
First place for Brazil, second place for Chile; in the corresponding group with every fixture decided by the three matches to nil margin, it was top spot for Argentina, the no.2 seeds, with Peru in second place.
Argentina selected from Martin Bentancor, Leandro Fuentes, Santiago Lorenzo and Alexis Orencel; for Peru, throughout Adolfo Cucha, Rodrigo Hidalgo and Jhon Loli were the players in action.
At the semi-final stage, Brazil plays Peru; Chile confronts Argentina; the Junior Boys’ Team event will be played to a conclusion on Thursday 22nd March.
