At the final hurdle they beat the outfit comprising Guilherme Teodoro, Rafael Torino and Eduardo Tomoike by three matches to nil, having at the semi-final stage recorded a three-one win in opposition to Chile’s Nicolas Burgos, Andres Martinez and Jorge Paredes.

Mainstay of the success was Martin Bentancor. Against Chile he beat both Andres Martinez (11-9, 11-6, 3-11, 10-12, 11-5) and Nicolas Burgos (9-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-8, 11-7); the wins coming after Nicolas Burgos had given the host nation the ideal start by overcoming Santiago Lorenzo (11-0, 11-4, 11-2).

The one further success for Argentina was recorded by Leandro Fuentes; in the second match of the contest he accounted for Jorge Paredes (8-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-5).

Similarly in the final, Martin Bentancor played a vital role; after Santiago Lorenzo had beaten Guilherme Teodoro (13-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-5), he recovered from a two games to nil deficit and the brink of defeat to overcome Rafael Torino in a hard fought five games encounter (9-11, 7-11, 13-11, 15-13, 11-8). The success turned the tide, Leandro Fuentes concluded matters by accounting for Eduardo Tomoike in four games (11-4, 11-6, 9-11, 11-7).

In the counterpart Junior Boys’ Team semi-final, fielding the same trio as in the title deciding contest, Brazil had beaten the Peruvian outfit comprising Adolfo Cucho, Rodrigo Hidalgo anf Jhon Loli by three matches to nil.

Team events concluded, attention now turns to the individual competitions, play in Santiago concludes on Sunday 25th March.
