Impressive in the final, in the later rounds Martin Bentancor had been equally impressive; at the quarter-final stage, he had ousted Chile’s Nicolas Burgos, the top seed (11-4, 11-7, 11-8, 11-6), prior to overcoming Brazil’s Eduardo Tomoike, the no.3 seed, in the penultimate round (7-11, 11-7, 13-11, 11-6, 11-5).

A semi-final departure for Eduardo Tomoike, for colleague Diogo Silva who in the group phase had beaten Nicolas Burgos (11-8, 11-9, 7-11, 13-11) to remain unbeaten and duly top the group, it was also defeat at the hands of a Chilean; he was narrowly beaten in the second round by Andres Martinez, the no.5 seed (14-12, 12-10, 9-11, 11-4, 6-11, 5-11, 11-9) and the player who the previous day had partnered Nicolas Burgos to Men’s Doubles gold.

Success for Andres Martinez but one round later it was to be defeat, he suffered at the hands of Santiago Lorenzo in closely contested six games encounter (18-16, 5-11, 11-4, 8-11, 11-6, 12-10), who duly booked his place in the final by overcoming Peru’s Rodrigo Hidalgo, the no.6 seed (11-9, 12-14, 11-5, 11-9, 11-6) and a player clearly in good form.

In round two, Rodrigo Hidalgo had beaten Chile’s Sebastian Gonzalez, the player who in the group stage of proceedings had accounted for Argentina’s Leandro Fuentes, the no.4 seed (1-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-7) and had duly remained unbeaten to top the group. Meanwhile for Leandro Fuemtes it was a quarter-final exit; he was beaten by Eduardo Tomoike (11-4, 11-8, 11-6, 11-2).

Defeat for Leandro Fuentes by it was Argentina who captured the honours, as the curtain closed Martin Bentancor and Santiago Lorenzo stood tall.
