Named as the top seeded player for the Cadet Boys’ Singles tournament, Ziad Elshawa has lived up to that honour by successfully reserving his place at the summit of the medals podium.
The Egyptian proved too strong for Cote d’Ivoire’s Ivan Landry Kouassi in the penultimate round (11-9, 11-5, 12-10) while Christian Mbongia secured the other place in the final with a four games victory over Ousmane Coulibaly (8-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-6).
Separated by just one position in the seeding list, but in the final there was a clear winner as Ziad Elshawa stormed to a powerful straight games success against his opponent from Congo Democratic (11-8, 12-10, 11-9) to lift the trophy.
Over in the Cadet Boys’ Doubles competition it was a momentous day for the host nation’s Jean Pierre Bayala and Ange Michel Seri, who negotiated a dramatic encounter with fellow compatriots Emmanuel Beugre and Ousmane Coulibaly (14-16, 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 11-3).
