Can Yoshua Shing continue his fine form in Port Vila?

Local table tennis hero Yoshua Shing is ready to fight for a place on the podium as Port Vila, Vanuatu is set to host the 2018 ITTF-Oceania Cup.

Oceania’s premier table tennis event will be staged in Korman Stadium from 18th-19thMay. Competition will be fierce with with $40,000AU in prize money up for grabs and the winner of the Men’s and Women’s Singles also qualifying to play at the ITTF World Cup later this year.

The local crowd will be out in force to support Shing, who was a bronze medallist in the 2017 edition of the event. The Vanuatu table tennis legend has been in fine form of late, with Shing making a clean sweep of gold medals at the 2017 Pacific Mini Games.

“It’s always a pleasure competing on home soil; but there is a lot of pressure as well. I will fight very hard as usual, and whatever happens I’ll be smiling!” Yoshua Shing

Vanuautu will also be represented by Stephanie Qwea in the Women’s Singles.

The field of sixteen athletes includes six Olympians, with defending champions David Powell and Jian Fang Lay also be in action as they represent Australia in Port Vila.

Table tennis fans are invited to come support the athletes, with the event getting underway at Korman Stadium, Port Vila on Friday 18thMay at 10am local time.
