Now we are at the sharp end of the tournament, the quest for medals; the players who in the Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles events have reached last 16 names.
Furthermore, in addition to the notable personalities from Europe, there is plenty of local interest; Jim Butler is alive and kicking in Men’s Singles 45 Years, as somewhat more senior, is Danny Seemiller in Men’s Singles 60 Years. He is present alongside compatriots Li Yuxiang and Cheng Yinhua.
Equally from Europe there are further notable names representing, Germany as opposed in his professional career Belgium, Andras Podpinka is on duty in Men’s Singles 50 Years as are Hungary’s Sandor Varga and Denmark’s Allan Bentsen.
Meanwhile also from the old continent note the top name in Women’s Singles 50 Years, it is that of Romania’s Olga Nemes who at the 1983 Europe Top 12 emerged as the sensational champions. At the time she was only 15 years old!
Also note the names of Hungary’s Rita Kertai and Belgium’s Céclie Ozer in Women’s Singles 40 Years, all international players of note.
