Some of the strongest female players on the European continent hail from Romania, a statement which has been further supported in the past year following the country’s Women’s Team gold medal victory at the 2017 European Team Championships.
One of the squad members who left the event in Luxembourg with a winners medal was Adina Diaconu, a player who has also enjoyed her fair share of success at European Youth Championships level with her Junior Girls’ Singles title successes at the 2015 and 2016 editions of the competition.
Adina Diaconu has now successfully transitioned to the senior team and one player looking to follow in her footsteps is Andreea Dragoman, who is training hard ahead of what will be her final appearance at the European Youth Championships.
“Right now, we are working hard and preparing for the Championships. I am already in Cluj-Napoca working with senior [players] Elizabeta Samara, Adina Diaconu and Bernadette Szocs… among many others.” Andreea Dragoman
Last year Romanian players were absent from the Junior Girls’ Singles final but the country did go on to reach the second step of the medals podium at the Junior Girls’ Team event and with the upcoming edition of the tournament taking place on home soil all eyes will be on Andreea Dragoman and Co. to see if the team can move one step higher in 2018.
“I am very happy that I have the opportunity to play in front of my people. It is a great pleasure and honour. In addition, it will be an extra motive and advantage to seal my junior years with the last Championships in front of Romania’s supporters at home.” Andreea Dragoman
