Success by three matches to two was the victory margin in both penultimate round contests as the United States, the top seeds, beat Brazil, the no.3 seeds and Canada the no.4 seeds upset the pecking order by overcoming Puerto Rico, the no.2 seeds.

Both contests followed a very similar pattern; at the end of the day team effort prevailed.

Impressively for Brazil, Bruna Takahashi beat both Crystal Wang (11-9, 11-7, 11-9) and Amy Wang (11-6, 8-11, 11-7, 12-10) but that was the sum total of her team’s success. Fernanda Kodama was beaten by both Amy Wang (11-4, 11-3, 11-9) and by Crystal Wang (11-2, 11-6, 11-6); in the crucial third match of the engagement, Livia Lima lost to Rachel Sung (1-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-3).

Similarly for Puerto Rico, Adriana Diaz remained unbeaten. She overcame Isabelle Xiong (11-4, 11-8, 11-3) and Ivy Liao (11-4, 11-4, 11-6). However, as with Brazil that was to prove the total of Puerto Rican success. Mileysha Sanchez lost to Ivy Liao (11-8, 11-8, 11-2) and in the vital concluding match of the fixture suffered at the hands of Isabelle Xiong (9-11, 11-6, 14-12, 11-7). Sandwiched in between, Fabiola Diaz experienced defeat when facing Joyce Xu (11-8, 11-6, 11-4).

Play in the Girls’ Team event concludes on Thursday 12th July.
