At the final hurdle they beat Kanak Jha and Amy Wang, the top seeds (11-3, 7-11, 15-13, 3-11, 11-5) to seal the title.

“It was a hard five games, the third game was crucial. We won that 15-13; that was a source of motivation. Yesterday we started slowly but as the tournament progressed we communicated better, high fives every point! We kept the ball on the table and we were able to exploit weaknesses. Earlier at the semi-final stage, Sharon Alguetti and Crystal Wang had beaten Nikhil Kumar and Rachel Yang, the no.14 seeds (11-2, 11-4, 11-7), in the opposite half of the draw, Kanak Jha and Amy Wang had ended the hopes of Nicholas Tio and Rachel Sung, the no.12 seeds (11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 11-6).

Success for the United States and earlier in the day there was further success. Nikhil Kumar and Nicholas Tio, the no.9 seeds, made a fine start to their Boys’ Doubles campaign; in the opening round they beat Aruba’s Jean-Claude Hoek and Donald Yarzagaray, the no.20 seeds (11-4, 11-5, 11-3).

Sharon Alguetti and Kanak Jha, the top seeds, have yet to start their Boys’ Doubles quest for honours, a situation the applies in the Girls’ Doubles event to Amy Wang and Crystal Wang, the top seeds as well as to Rachel Sung and Rachel Yang, the no.7 seeds.

The Boys’ Doubles and Girls’ Doubles events will be played to a conclusion on Sunday 15th July.
