Leading the charge for the Czech Republic was Tomas Martinko, who came away from his encounter with Turkey’s Tugay Yilmaz with a win across six games (9-11, 13-11, 11-7, 7-11, 14-12, 11-6).
Two further Czech players are also through to the Round of 64 with Radek Skala and Frantisek Onderka claiming victories over Ziv Itshak (11-8, 11-6, 9-11, 6-11, 11-6, 9-11, 12-10) and Ilia Kortchinski (11-7, 11-7, 5-11, 11-1, 11-9) respectively.
One of the big upsets of the round saw Yang Xinyu depart the proceedings: leading by a two games margin the Azerbaijan player failed to hold Yaniv Karmazin’s comeback attempt at bay (10-12, 6-11, 11-7, 13-11, 14-12, 7-11, 11-9) – Israel’s Karmazin will face Filip Radovic of Montenegro in the last 64.
Belgian star Olav Kosolosky put in a strong display in the Round of 128, defeating Spanish rival Francisco Miguel Ruiz in tie which went the full seven games distance (11-9, 9-11, 8-11, 12-10, 11-5, 11-13, 11-6).
The Round of 64 and Round of 32 of the Junior Boys’ Singles event will take place on Sunday 22nd July.
