Unseeded for the competition Christina Källberg should be commended for her campaign in Cluj-Napoca and will finish in the top four at the very least, beating fifth seed Andreea Dragoman across five games (12-10, 11-9, 6-11, 14-12, 11-6) to reach the semi-finals.
Anastasia Kolish won’t be presented with the opportunity to better her runner up finish from last year after the second seed suffered an unexpected elimination in the last eight.
The Russian struggled to find her footing against No.14 seed Tania Plaian (11-8, 11-9, 15-13, 12-14, 10-12, 11-5), who is now the sole Romanian player left standing in the Junior Girls’ Singles category.
While the 2017 silver medallist has bid her farewells, the winner from last year Ning Jing marches on following her powerful outing against top seed Sabina Surjan (12-10, 11-4, 11-6, 11-2). Ekaterina Zironova is the other player through to the penultimate round thanks to a terrific comeback victory over Franziska Schreiner (8-11, 11-7, 7-11, 10-12, 11-7, 11-6, 12-10).
The Junior Girls’ Singles competition officially concludes on Tuesday 24th July.
