However, the 28 year old is well aware that there is a tough task ahead.

“I can see that the tournament is getting stronger every year because in 2017, I competed against some good players; from what I have seen from the list of participants this year, I can see that it is going to be tougher this year. I know I have to be at my best to equal or better my last outing.” Saheed Idowu

Most certainly the entry for the Men’s Singles event is most impressive with the likes of the host nation’s Quadri Aruna heading the list followed by Russia’s Alexey Liventsov, Finland’s Benedek Olah, a former winner and Brazil experienced Thiago Monteiro.

Tough tests await but Saheed Idowu can be sure of Lagos support.

“I am a Nigerian by birth, my family and friends will be hoping to see me play and perform well. I am also ready to do better than last year. The tournament is bigger than what it was when it started a few years ago; this year we have players from top nations like China and Russia plus a host of other countries. It promises to be explosive, coupled with the ever supporting Lagos fans who understand the game. I am eagerly looking forward to the championship; I want to show my quality to my teeming fans in Nigeria.” Saheed Idowu

Most certainly Saheed Idowu is in a positive mood and with local support who knows what may happen.

“My target is to perform better than my previous outings particularly to make it to the podium in the singles as well as make my fans happy. I know it is possible by God’s grace.” Saheed Idowu

Currently, Saheed Idowu is the no.13 seed in the Men’s Singles event; in the Men’s Doubles he partners colleague Abiodun Lawal.
