In the final the Greek player met a formidable foe in Truls Moregard, who made a name for himself at the back-end of last year with a sensational runner up finish at the 2017 World Junior Championships. However, in Cluj-Napoca the Swede was forced to settle for another silver medal with Ioannis Sgouropoulos snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.
Truls Moregard was faster out of the blocks than his opponent in the final and looked to be heading for a comfortable win after sailing into a commanding three games to one lead.
With little room for error Ioannis Sgouropoulos launched a late comeback bid, recovering three consecutive games to finish at the summit of the medals podium for the second year running (9-11, 8-11, 11-2, 9-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-7).
The Cadet Boys’ Singles trophy was presented to Poland thanks to a competent display from Maciej Kubik.
Losing out in the opening game of the final but Maciej Kubik ultimately proved too strong for France’s Myshaal Sabhi with the top seeded player pulling off a thunderous response against the no.3 seed (10-12, 11-6, 11-5, 11-9, 11-1) to emerge as Champion.
