The errant contest was at the semi-final stage when facing the Hong Kong ‘A’ duo comprising Phoebe Hui Wai and Ng Wing Lam. Yang Yiyun experienced defeat in the opening contest against Ng Wing Lam (11-9, 11-2, 5-11, 11-6).

Not the most prosperous start to the day for the champions elect but from that point onwards life went from strength to strength.

Chen Yi beat Phoebe Hui Wai (5-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-3), before partnering Li Yuqi to doubles success (11-4, 8-11, 11-5, 6-11, 11-9) and then returning to the table to end matters by overcoming Ng Wing Lam (11-5, 11-8, 10-12, 11-4).

A place in the final booked, there were no hiccups as the top step of the podium was reserved; a three-nil win was recorded against the Chinese Taipei outfit comprising Cheng Pu-Syuan and Tsai Pei-Rung.

Once again Chen Yi was very much in evidence; she gave her team the perfect start by beating Cheng Pu-Syuan (11-6, 11-4, 11-9). Li Yuqi followed suit to double the lead by overcoming Tsai Pei-Rung (11-8, 13-11, 11-4), before Chen Yi and Li Yuqi combined to win the doubles (11-3, 11-5, 11-9) and close the curtain.

In the counterpart semi-final, Cheng Pu-Syuan and Tsai Pei-Rung accounted for the Hong Kong ‘B’ team duo of Chelsea Chan Shiu Lam and Yenn Ho Ching by three matches to one. Mainstay of the victory was Tsai Pei-Rung. She beat both Yenn Ho Ching (11-9, 11-7, 15-17, 11-9) and Chelsea Shiu Lam (11-8, 9-11, 11-9, 10-12, 11-4), whilst teaming with Cheng Pu-Syuan to secure the doubles (12-10, 11-8, 11-8).

Play concluded in the Cadet Girls’ Team event; attention now turns to the individual competitions.
