Intentions were made clear from the start as China recorded a three-nil win against Malaysia’s Karen Lyne, Tee Ai Xin and Kuan E. Xian followed by the same margin of victory when facing Korea Republic’s Shin Yubin, Ryu Hanna and Wei Yeji in the penultimate round.

Likewise, Japan with Moe Nomura resigned to the bench, a three-nil Japanese success was the outcome when confronting Thailand’s Naja Mekamporn, Nanapot Kola and Papatchaya Hoarakkit. A semi-final place booked, with Moe Nomura replacing Miki Izumo the same margin of success was the outcome in opposition to Hong Kong’s Chau Wing Sze, Lee Ka Yee and Wong Chin Yau.

Bronze medals for Korea Republic and Hong Kong but for the latter it was very nearly a quarter-final exit. They lost the first two matches against Chinese Taipei’s Chen Ting-Ting, Su Pei-Ling and Wei Ruei-Ling before recovering to secure a five match victory.

Lee Ka Yee lost to Chen Ting-Ting (11-7, 11-9, 7-11, 11-7), before Wong Chin Yau suffered the same fate when facing Su Pei-Ling (3-11, 11-3, 11-5, 11-4).

It was at that stage the Hong Kong recovery began. Chau Wing Sze beat Wen Rue-Ling by the very narrowest of decisions (9-11, 11-8, 13-11, 9-11, 12-10), before Lee Ka Yee defeated Su Pei-Ling (10-12, 11-5, 11-7, 12-10) and Wong Chin Yau completed the recovery by overcoming Chen Ting-Ting (11-8, 11-9, 5-11, 8-11, 11-7).

The final of the Junior Girls’ Team event will be played on Wednesday 15th August.
