Hero of the hour, as in the final, was Yang Tsan-Wei; in the fifth match of the fixture he overcame Mudit Mahajan (11-6, 11-5, 11-7).
The opening round negotiated; finding form Wang Chen-You and Yang Tsan-Wei recorded a three-nil quarter-final win in opposition to the no.2 seeds, the Puerto Rico ‘A’ Team combination of Angel Naranjo and Jabdiel Torres, prior to securing a three-one success against the no.11 seeds, the United States ‘A’ Team pairing formed by Sahil Puri and Jayden Zhou.
Meanwhile, in the opposite half of the draw, a direct entry to the quarter-finals, Ricardo Azofeifa and Carlos Fernandez opened their second day account by overcoming the no.12 seeds, United States ‘C’ Team pairing of Jonathan Qin and Ved Seth by three matches to one, prior to succeeding by the same margin against Guatemala’s Sergio Carillo and Jorge Chacon, the no.4 seeds.
Notably the one match surrendered against the United States ‘C’ Team was that suffered by Carlos Fernandez in the opening match of the fixture. He was beaten by Ved Seth (7-11, 11-5, 7-11, 12-10, 11-8); it was to prove his only singles defeat in the whole event.
The Cadet Boys’ Team events concluded; attention now turns to the individual competitions. Play concludes in San Salvador on Sunday 12th August.
