Shi Xunyao reserved her last eight place courtesy of success against the Korea Republic’s Ryu Hanna (11-4, 11-7, 11-3, 6-11, 11-4), having in the opening round accounted for Japan’s Yumeno Soma (7-11, 13-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-5).

Similarly, Qian Tianyi had overcome Chinese Taipei’s Chien Tung-Chuan (11-6, 11-9, 4-11, 11-8, 11-6), followed by success in opposition to Miku Izumo, like Yumeno Soma from Japan (7-11, 11-6, 11-7, 4-11, 12-10, 11-5).

Defeats for Japan but there was success, hard fought success; 14 year old Miyuu Kihara, the no.16 seed, kept her nerve to beat Chinese Taipei’s Su Pei-Ling, the no.3 seed (10-12, 11-9, 2-11, 12-10, 11-9, 14-16, 11-7) to reserve her second round place, where she repeated the feat. She accounted for the Korea Republic’s Shin Yubin in a similarly hard fought full distance duel (11-2, 11-2, 7-11, 6-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-6).

Life on a knife-edge for Miyuu Kihara, it was somewhat the same for Hong Kong’s Lee Ka Yee on her journey to the penultimate round.

The no.9 seed, she needed the full seven games to beat Malaysia’s Karen Kyne (11-5, 6-11, 12-10, 10-12, 11-8, 5-11, 11-9), prior to reserving her penultimate round place by overcoming Japan’s Moe Nomura in six games (4-11, 7-11, 11-4, 11-4, 11-5, 11-4).

At the semi-final stage Shi Xunyao plays Lee Ka Yee, Qian Tianyi opposes Miyuu Kihara; play concludes in Nay Pyi Taw on Saturday 18th August.
