Four titles on offer on the second day of play, Monday 27th August, in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, at the 2018 Caribbean Mini and Pre-Cadet Championships; it was success for the host the host nation.

Three gold medals was the haul, the one interloper from foreign shores was Puerto Rico.

Represented by Daymar Castro, Alanis Reyes and Alahia Medina, in a group organised competition, Puerto Rico secured top prize in the Under 13 Girls’ Team event; they finished ahead of Jamaica’s Gianna Lewis, Kelsey Davidson and Olivia Petrekin with Trinidad and Tobago represented by Priyanka Khellewan, Imani Edwards Taylor and Rebeka Sterling concluding matters in third position.

Otherwise it was success upon success for the Dominican Republic.

Eduardo Darley, Marcos Tavares and Christopher Rodriguez combined to win the Under 13 Boys’ Team competition recording a three-one win in the final against St Lucia represented by Saneil Bernard, De Andre Calderon and Jelanie Dusauzay. Early at the semi-final stage the Dominican Republic trio had beaten Trinidad and Tobago’s Jalen Kerr, Nicholas O’Young and Jamaali Mauge; the St Lucian outfit had overcome Puerto Rico who fielded José Neves, John Marrero and Giovanni Centeno.

Both semi-finals were resolved by three matches to one; there was no third place play-off.

Notable performances by the Dominican Republic, it was the same in the Under 11 Boys’ Team event where Ramon Vila, Rafael Cabrera and Alexander Perez secured first place. Second position was clinched by Puerto Rico’s Yadier Lopez, Enrique Rios and Eliam Davila with Jamaica’s Garu Wythe, Azzizi Johnson and Brian Blake third on the list.

Meanwhile, in the Under 11 Girls’ Team event, it was very much the same scenario. Once again a group arranged event; Arianna Estrella, Shary Muñoz and Caroline Sosa secured top spot. Next in line was Jamaica represented by Navaeh Scott, Tsenaye Lewis and Jada Allwood with third place finishing in the hands of Puerto Rico’s Liara Rivera, Valentina Davila and Danelys Cruz.

Team events over, attention now turns to the individual competitions; play concludes on Friday 31st August.
