Earlier in partnership with Alexander Perez and Ramon Vila; Rafael Cabrera had been a member of the successful outfit that secured Under 11 Boys’ Team gold, prior to partnering Ramon Vila to Under 11 Boys’ Doubles success.
Likewise, Shary Muñoz had joined forces with Arianna Estrella and Carolina Sousa to reserve the Under 11 Girls’ Team title, before pairing with Arianna Estrella to claim the top step of the podium in the Under 11 Girls’ Doubles competition. In addition, Rafael Cabrera and Shary Muñoz had teamed together to win the Under 11 Mixed Doubles title.
Meanwhile, for Puerto Rico’s Daymar Castro, she fell just one event short of completing the four wins.
Prior to the concluding day of action, in the Under 13 events she had clinched Girls’ Team gold in partnership with Alahia Medina and Alanis Reyes, before in conjunction with the latter enjoying Girls’ Doubles success and, with John Marrero, gaining Mixed Doubles gold.
In the Under 13 Girls’ Singles event, she experienced a semi-final defeat at the hands of Trinidad and Tobago’s Priyanka Khellewan (6-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-8), who progressed to secure the title by causing Puerto Rico more pain. She beat Alanis Reyes (11-8, 13-11, 11-9) and thus completed a successful title defence, whilst making it three in a row; in 2016 she had secured the Under 11 Girls’ Singles title.
Three titles for Daymar Castro, it was the same for Eduardo Darley; previously, the young man from the Dominican Republic had enjoyed success in the Under 13 Boys’ Team event, alongside Marcos Tavares and Christopher Rodriguez, before in harness with Oswaldy Reyes claiming the Under 13 Boys’ Doubles top prize.
On the concluding day of play, he overcame Puerto Rico’s José Nieves to gain the honours in the Under 13 Boys’ Singles event; at the final hurdle he prevailed in three straight games (11-5, 11-7, 11-4).
Overall, in the points total which takes into account all events, the Dominican Republic finished in first position ahead of Puerto Rico with Jamaica in third place.
