Emil Santos and Samuel Galvez won the Men’s Doubles title, Eva Brito and Yasiris Ortiz reserved the top step of the podium in the Women’s Doubles event; Isaac Vila and Esmerlyn Castro were crowned Mixed Doubles champions.
Gold for Emil Santos and Samuel Galvez but it was hard earned goal; at the semi-final stage they came very close to bidding farewell. They recovered from a two games to nil deficit and the brink of defeat in the third game, before eventually emerging successful in opposition to the Barbados combination of Kevin Farley and Tyrose Knight (9-11, 7-11, 13-11, 12-10, 11-7).
A place in the final booked, Jamaica awaited; they faced Simon Tomlinson and Kane Watson; a rather more comfortable win was experienced. The Dominican Republic duo emerged successful in three straight games (11-9, 11-6, 11-6). Earlier in the opposite half of the draw, Simon Tomlinson and Kane Watson had accounted for Mark Dowell and Marcus Smith, also from Barbados (11-8, 11-9, 11-5).
The top step of the podium in the Men’s Doubles event, in the Women’s Doubles competition, it was the top two steps. In four games, Eva Brito and Yasiris Ortiz overcame Esmerlyn Castro and Dahyana Rojas to secure the top prize (11-4, 11-13, 11-1, 11-8). Gold and silver for the Dominican Republic, for Guyana it was double bronze; Eva Brito and Yasiris Ortiz beat Guyana’s Natalie Cummings and Chelsea Edghill (11-4, 15-13, 11-6); Esmerlyn Castro and Dahyana Rojas accounted for Jody-Ann Blake and Trenace Lowe (11-8, 13-11, 11-6).
Similarly, in the Mixed Doubles competition, there was a place on the podium for Guyana. Contrary to expectations Christopher Franklin and Trenace Lowe recorded a semi-final win in opposition to Emil Santos and Eva Brito (12-10, 11-7, 2-11, 0-11, 11-4), before in the final experiencing defeat at the hands of Isaac Vila and Esmerlyn Castro (11-8, 12-10, 11-5). In the opposite half of the draw, Isaac Vila and Esmerlyn Castro had beaten colleagues Samuel Galvez and Yasiris Ortiz (11-3, 11-9, 11-5).
