At the final hurdle Angelica Arellano and Maria Borja accounted for Ecuadorian colleagues, Fiorella Olaya and Maybeline Menendez by three matches to one to seal the title.

Earlier, in the later rounds Angelica Arellano and Maria Borja had recorded a three-nil quarter-final victory against Chile’s Martina Rios and Martina Mantecino, prior to securing victory by three matches to one in the penultimate round, when facing Peru’s Karla Mendez and Flavia Garcia. Notably Angelica Arellano remained unbeaten throughout the whole event.

Impressive from Angelica Arellano and Maria Borja, for Fiorella Olaya and Maybeline Menendez life was more exacting. They were extended the full five match distance by the Dominican Republic’s Andrea Estrella and Shary Muñoz, prior to securing their place in the final in rather less exacting circumstances. They beat Peru’s Jazim Colque and Valentina Lazon by three matches to one.

Success for Angelica Arellano and Maria Borja, there was also most creditable success for Rafael Cabrera and Ramon Vila in the Under 11 Boys’ Team competition. They showed no charity; a three-nil win was recorded against Chile’s Félipe Alvarado and Gabriel Flores in the quarter-finals, before in the penultimate round and in the final exactly the same margin of success was posted. In a most imposing manner, they beat Ecuador’s Henry Inarra and Joshua Robajo followed by success against Peru’s Gonzalo Vera and José Antonio Perales to seal the title.

In the adjacent half of the draw, at the quarter-final stage Gonzalo Vera and Ramon Vila progressed in a somewhat different manner; three-two victory margins had been the outcome in the quarter-final round against Costa’s Rica’s Emanuel Rivera and Alejandro Montoya, also in the semi-finals when facing Chile’s Martin Peña and Francisco Villegas.

The team events over, attention now turns to the individual competitions, play in Santo Domingo concludes on Tuesday 30th October.
