At the final hurdle of the Cadet Boys’ Singles event, Chen Yifei beat Frenchman Thibaut Poret (11-4, 11-8, 10-12, 11-7), having earlier in the day at the quarter-final stage ousted Felix Lebrun, also from France (11-3, 11-8, 13-11), before at the semi-final stage ending the hopes of colleague Zhang Jinghan (11-7, 11-7, 11-7).
In the opposite half of the draw, in the later rounds, Thibault Poret had beaten Germany’s Felix Köhler (0-11, 11-6, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8), followed by success in opposition to Niu Zegian, like Chen Yifei from China (11-7, 10-12, 11-9, 11-8).
Disappointment for Niu Zegian but it was Boys’ Doubles success; partnering Zhang Jinghan, the pair accounted for Frenchmen Milhane Jellouli and Alexis Kouraichi in the final (11-9, 10-12, 11-6, 12-10).
Impressive from Chen Yifei, it was the same from Xu Yi in the Girls’ Singles competition. After accounting for Chinese Taipei’s Cheng Pu-Syuan (11-6, 11-6, 11-6) and colleague Sun Xiaomeng (11-8, 7-11, 11-5, 11-7), she overcame Zhang Xiaoshu to arrest the title (11-8, 11-8, 9-11, 11-7).
Notably in the adjacent opposite half of the draw, at the quarter-final stage Zhang Xiaoshu had beaten compatriot, Wang Zhu (12-10, 13-15, 11-4, 11-7), followed by success in opposition to Russia’s Daria Mikhailova (11-4, 6-11, 11-7, 11-7).
Earlier in the Girls’ Doubles final, Sun Xiaomeng and Xu Yi had beaten colleagues Wang Zhu and Zhang Xiaoshu (11-7, 11-9, 13-11) to claim the top prize.
