In the wheelchair categories, events organized on a group basis, in Class 1-3, Japan’s Yukimi Chada was never seriously troubled.
However in Class 4, it was somewhat different for Russia’s Aleksandra Vasileva. In her opening contest she needed the full five games to beat Colombia’s Manuela Guapi (8-11, 11-5, 5-11, 11-4, 11-5), before rather more comfortably accounting for the host nation’s Cristina Rubio (11-3, 11-3, 11-5).
Testing times for Aleksandra Vasileva, for colleague Olga Komleva-Gorshkaleva in Class 9-10, a competition in which there were two groups in the initial phase of proceedings, life was even more exacting. She was beaten in five games by Hungary’s Bettina Bicsak (9-11, 11-8, 7-11, 12-10, 11-9), before recovering to overcome Ukraine’s Iryna Shynkarova in three straight games (11-1, 11-7, 12-10) in her immediately ensuing contest.
Second place in the group appeared the realistic option but Bettina Bicsak was unable to repeat the earlier form. She experienced defeat in in four games when facing Iryna Shynkarova (11-7, 8-11, 11-8, 11-8). Thus games ratio determined the outcome; Olga Komleva-Gorshkaleva (5:3) finished in first place ahead of Bettina Biscak (4:5) and Iryna Shynkarova (3:5).
Places in the semi-finals for Olga Komleva-Gorshkaleva and Bettina Biscak; in the adjacent group, Sweden’s Anja Handen, the no.2 seed, ended the day unbeaten in top spot, with Denmark’s Thea Amalie Nielsen, the runner up.
Meanwhile, in the remaining standing events, administered on a group basis, the top seeds ended the day unbeaten; Ukraine’s Maryna Lytovchenko, competing in Class 6-7 enjoyed a successful day as in Class 8 did Norway’s Aida Dahlen.
Play in the Women’s Singles events concludes on Friday 16th November.
