Competing in Class 9-10, Olga Komleva-Gorshkaleva and Elena Litvinenko secured their place in the semi-finals as did Sweden’s Anja Handen and Smilla Sand, the no.2 seeds, an event in which there were two groups in the initial stage of proceedings.
Progress as status advised; however in the remaining Women’s Team events, where matters were administered on a group basis, life was somewhat different.
In Class 1-4, the combination of Japan’s Yukimi Chada and Great Britain’s Lucie Bouron, the top seeds, experienced a two-one defeat when facing the pairing comprised by Monique Sirgand of France and Colombia’s Manuela Guapi.
An early success for Monique Sirgand and Manuela Guapi but in their second contest of the day it was a different story. They experienced a two-nil defeat at the hands Russia’s Aleksandra Vasileva and the host nation’s Cristina Rubio; the duo ending the day as the one unbeaten combination.
Likewise in Class 6-8, there were problems for the partnership formed by Ukraine’s Maryna Lytovchenko and Russia’s Maliak Alieva; the top seeds they suffered a two matches one defeat when confronting Poland’s Dayana Jastrzebska and Suzan Klomp of the Netherlands.
However, as with Monique Sirgand and Manuela Guapi, it was defeat in their immediately ensuing engagement; they were beaten by Norway’s Aida Dahlen and Merethe Tveiten, a two-nil result being the order of the day. Aida Dahlen and Merethe Tveiten ended the day as the only unbeaten outfit in the group.
