Japan’s Yukimi Chada, Ukraine’s Maryna Lytovchenko and Norway’s Aida Dahlen all enjoyed success, as did the Russian duo of Aleksandra Vasileva and Olga Komleva-Gorshkaleva.
Play organized on a group basis, in Class 1-3, Yukimi Chada finished in first place ahead of Great Britain’s Lucie Bouron; the order being very much anticipated, Lucie Bouron commenced matters as the second highest rated player on duty.
It was very much the same in Class 6-7, Maryna Lytovchenko, crowned World champion in Lasko in October, concluded matters in top spot; Russia’s Maliak Alieva emerged the next in line.
However, in Class 4, Colombia’s Manuela Guapi upset the order of merit. The lowest rated player in the competition, she finished in runners up spot behind Aleksandra Vasileva. Monique Sirgand of France, the second highest ranked, had to settle for third position.
Likewise, in Class 8, also from Russia, contrary to expectations, Elena Litvinenko, who commenced matters as the third highest listed, finished in second position behind Aida Dahlen. She changed places with Poland’s Dajana Jsastrzebska who ended matters in third position.
Meanwhile, in Class 9-10 it was the top two names who reached the final; Olga Komleva-Gorshkaleva overcoming Sweden’s Anja Handen (11-8, 11-6, 11-3) to seal the title. Earlier at the semi-final stage, Olga Komleva-Gorshkaleva had beaten Denmark’s Thea Amelie Nielsen (11-2, 6-11, 11-4, 11-5); Anja Handen had accounted for Hungary’s Bettina Bicsak (7-11, 11-9, 11-6, 12-10).
Play in the individual events concluded, attention now turns to the team competitions; proceedings conclude in Almeria on Sunday 18th November.
