Competing in Class 1-2, the no.2 seeds, in the concluding fixture in a group organised competition, they beat Russia’s Evgeni Riazantcev and Dmitry Lavrov by two matches to one to seal the top prize. Notably both teams had entered the final day of play unbeaten
Third position finished in the possession of the host nation’s Miguel Angel Toledo and Ognacio Robles.
Conversely in Class 3 and Class 4-5, proceedings administered in two stages, the top seeds emerged successful.
In Class 3, after recording a two-nil penultimate round win in opposition to Russia’s Vladimir Toporkov and Rail Galiakberov; Vasyl Petruniv and Oleksandr Yezyk clinched victory by the same margin when facing the French partnering of Sylvain Noël and Stéphane Gil-Martins. Earlier at the semi-final stage, the French duo had ended the gold medal hopes of Austria’s Egon Kramminger and Manfred Dollmann; a two-nil victory margin being the end result.
Similarly, in Class 4-5, it was gold for the top seeds; moreover it was gold and silver for Indonesia.
At the final hurdle Agus Sutanto and Tatok Hardiyanto accounted for colleagues Adyos Astan and Yayang Gunaya. Success by two matches to nil was the score line, as it had been in both semi-finals. Agus Sutanto and Tatok Hardiyanto had ousted Romania’s Petru Ifrosa and Ioan Dirlea; colleagues Adyos Astan and Yayang Gunaya had ended the hopes of the Netherlands combination formed by Gerardus Van Grunsven and Sem Roelofs.
Proceedings in Almeria concluded; attention now turns to Buenos Aires in Argentina; the Copa Tango commences on Friday 30th November.
