Meanwhile in Class 2-3, also organized in two stages, a group phase with first and second in each group advancing to the semi-finals, there was somewhat of a surprise. Brazil’s Thai Fraga, the top seed, concluded matters in first place in her group ahead of Venezuela’s Ana Carrillo but there was defeat for compatriot; Marliane Amaral, the no.2 seed. She suffered at the hands of Cuba’s Yanelis Silva (9-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-1).
However, it was to prove her only defeat; thus second place and progress to the main draw was secured. Yanelis Silva duly remained unbeaten to top the group.
At the semi-final stage Thais Fraga meets Marliane Amarel, Yanelis Silva opposes Anna Carrillo.
Play in the individual events concludes on Thursday 6th November.
