Gold medallist last week in the Czech Republic, for Japan’s Honami Nakamori the quest is to win consecutive titles, not only is the target to gain a repeat success, it is once again to upset the order of merit.

In Hodonin, she commenced matters as the no.21 seed; at the 2019 Swedish Junior and Cadet Open, which begins in Örebro on Wednesday 20th February, she is the no.10 seed.

A repeat success, there may well need to be repeat performances. In Hodonin, she ended French hopes in the third round beating Isa Cok, before in the final accounting for Prithika Pavade. In Örebro, Prithika Pavade is the no.2 seed, Isa Cok, the no.5 seed.

Also, Honami Nakamori may face colleague, Kaho Akae once again, the player she beat in the penultimate round in Hodonin; in Sweden, Kaho Akae occupies the no.6 seeded spot.

Similarly, Kaho Akae is searching consecutive titles; in the Czech Republic she won the cadet girls’ singles title beating Miwa Harimoto, likewise from Japan, in the final. In Örebro, Kako Akae is the top seed ahead of Singapore’s Zhou Jingyi, Anna Hursey of Wales and Germany’s Annett Kaufmann.

Success last week for the top seed in the cadet girls’ singles event, in the counterpart junior girls’ singles competition, life was very different. Leading the list in Örebro, Singapore’s Goi Rui Xuan departed proceedings in the third round in Hodonin, she was beaten by Japan’s Ari Shirayama. Once again, the name of 13 year old Ari Shirayama appears on the entry list; no world ranking, in both the junior girls’ singles and cadet girls’ singles events, she must compete in the qualification stage.

Replicating the previous week, to some extent the situation also applies to Prithika Pavade; in Hodonin, in the third round of the junior girls’ singles event, she beat Japan’s Yukari Sugasawa. In Sweden, Yukari Sugasawa is the no.3 seed, one place ahead of Darya Kisel, a player who has yet to make an impact on the ITTF World Junior Circuit. It is very much the same for Egypt’s Fadwa Garci and Singapore’s Wong Xin Ru, the players who complete the top eight names.

Prominent in the cadet girls’ singles event, Anna Hursey is the mini-cadet girls’ singles top seed; next in line is Ireland’s Sophie Earley followed by Egypt’s Hana Goda and Singapore’s Ser Lian Qian.

In both the junior girls’ singles and cadet girls’ singles events, the top 16 names receive direct entries to the main draw; in the mini-cadet girls’ singles, all entrants compete in the group stage.
