In the junior boys’ singles event, the somewhat unexpected names to secure first places and thus advance to the main draw were Argentina’s Matias Velarde, Peru’s Rodrigo Bejarno and Brazil’s Lauro Sebold; in fact the only player who started the day as the highest rated in his group to secure first place was Diogo Silva, like Lauro Sebold from Brazil.

Just one first place as anticipated; it was the same in the initial phase of the junior girls’ singles competition; Paraguay’s Cielo Mutti emerged in top spot as expected but in the remaining three groups, the first placed names were not as anticipated. Brazil’s Lais Mika Yuta alongside Ecuador’s Alejandra Veintimilla and Mylena Plaza reserved pole positions.

Surprises but not when compared with the junior boys’ doubles event; Peru’s Rodrigo Bejarano and Jhon Lou caused the biggest upset of the day. They beat Brazil’s Guilherme Teodoro and Rafael Torino, the top seeds (11-8, 11-6, 9-11, 15-13) to book their place in the semi-finals where they meet Argentina’s Santiago Lorenzo and Mattias Velarde, the no.3 seeds. In the opposite half of the draw, Chile’s Nicolas Burgos and Andres Martinez, the no.2 seeds, confront Peru’s Adolfo Cucho and Felipe Duffoo, the no.4 seeds.

Meanwhile, in the junior girls’ doubles event, the top four seeded pairs all advanced safely to the penultimate round. In the top half of the draw Brazil’s Tamyres Fukase and Livia Lima, the top seeds, meet Ecuador’s Nathaly Paredes and Mylena Plaza, the no.4 seeds; in the opposite half Chile’s Valentia Rios and Jerusalen Flores, the no.2 seeds, oppose Paraguay’s Leyla Gomez and Cielo Mutti, the no.3 seeds.
