Gold medallist at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, Wong Ka Man was beaten by Lea Ferney of France (11-2, 2-11, 11-4, 6-11, 12-10), having earlier in the day suffered at the hands of Korea Republic’s Seo Yanghee (11-6, 5-11, 11-8, 12-10). In the concluding match in the group, Lea Ferney beat Seo Yanghee (11-3, 11-9, 10-12, 11-5) to secure first place.
Otherwise, for the leading names in the women’s singles event it was a day of success.
In class 2-4, Korea Republic’s Seo Suyeon and India’s Bhavina Hasmukh Bhai Patel, the respective top two seeds, duly topped their groups to book semi-final places, a situation that applied also in class 7 to Kelly van Zon of the Netherlands and Korea Republic’s Kim Seongok. Likewise in class 8, Thu Kamkasomphu of France and Japan’s Yuri Tomono reserved first positions.
Meanwhile in class 6, the event played on a group basis, also from the Korea Republic, Lee Kunwoo, the top seed, ended the day the only player unbeaten. Somewhat similarly in class 9, play administered on the group formula, the leading name, Brazil’s Danielle Rauen concluded the day as the only player without defeat.
Just one player unbeaten, in class 10, the event also organized on the group formula, two players, Denmark’s Sophie Walloe and Romania’s Ioanna-Monica Tepelea enjoyed a day without drama.
Play in the individual events in Girona concludes on Thursday 21st March.
