NISR is a government agency responsible for collecting, analysing, archiving and disseminating national statistical data to support the government of Rwanda in making evidence based decisions.
According to the Media Officer of RTTF, Daniel Ruziga, the Federation will provide equipment and train NISR staff, while the agency will act as springboard for attracting other government agencies to the sport. Ultimately an inter-agency competition is expected.
“By way of enhancing exchanges and co-operation at all levels and sharing development experience, we will be able to cement the foundation for the sound, steady and sustained growth of the sport. The memorandum of understanding and the equipment are part of the Federation development programme aimed at developing and promoting table tennis in schools and the general public. Our focus is at grassroots, especially young people so that the sport can be played professionally.
We have organised, competitions in partnership with the Ministry of Sports, Rwanda School Sports Federation and The Chinese Embassy and so that we can start nurturing players.” John Bosco Birungi
Equally positive
A positive approach as always from John Bosco Birungi, it was the same from Ivan Murenzi, the NISR Deputy Director-General.
“Table Tennis has proven effective in enhancing mental agility due to the quick reflexes it demands, both of which are important in the work we do. So take it as an exercise activity that will improve your body and mind.” Murenzi said.
Likewise Munyanziza Gervais, who witnessed the signing on behalf of the Ministry of Sports, was equally buoyant.
“The Federation has come from far; today the body is vibrant since they are doing something to develop table tennis. It is good to see RTTF involved in schools and grassroots programmes. The government of Rwanda has partnerships aimed at discovering and nurturing talent. These should be given priority especially that we have facilities and like-minded federations which we can take advantage of.” Munyanziza Gervais
